Kansas City, the Heart of America, always holds a special place in the hearts of Kansas City natives. Much loved and full of history, it truly is a great place to tie the knot!
Some of the city’s greatest buildings and prettiest places make the perfect wedding venues. Check out the list below for some of the top wedding and reception spots in KC and where they fit in the city’s history.
Union Station
Talk about historic places to see around town! Union Station was built in 1914 as a train station, which originally had 900 rooms! It sent thousands of travelers on their merry ways every year. The Station closed its doors in the 1980s, then officially reopened after a large renovation in 1999. Tourists and couples alike love the Station’s Grand Hall, boasting 95-food ceilings, three 3,500-pound chandeliers and a six-foot wide clock hanging under the Station’s central arch. While in use as a train station, the clock was often used as a meeting place for couples and families, who would plan to reunite “under the clock”!
The Grand Reserve
As the former Federal Reserve Building, The Grand Reserve has stunning marble floors, towering columns, and gorgeous art deco chandeliers that hang in the center of the two-story room (formerly the main lobby for the bank). The superbly preserved building is perfect for couples that love the look of the roaring twenties and the all the details that includes. As their website puts it, “The [Grand Reserve] offers an air of sophistication and refinement that is part museum, part speakeasy”.
The Clubhouse on Baltimore
The original home of the Kansas City Club, the Clubhouse on Baltimore has become an awesome event venue. Construction on the building, which is located downtown among hotels and other Kansas City attractions, began in 1918 and was completed in 1922 and acted as one of the premier spots for prominent business men of the time to meet up and talk business and about other social matters. The building is now used for special events and with its 50,000 square feet of banquet space and sixteen separate rooms, is a great place to have a wedding or reception (or both).
Loose Park
The Jacob L. Loose Park is one of the prettiest places in the Kansas City area. While the park itself has a lot of history (it was the major site for the Battle of Westport and the original spot for the Kansas City Country Club’s golf course), wedding-wise, it is most known for its manicured rose garden. The garden began in 1931 when a group of Kansas Citians established the Kansas City Rose Society and has been a blooming project ever since. Today the 1.5 acre garden contains over 4,000 roses of 150 different varieties.
The Nelson-Atkins Art Museum
Built between 1930 and 1933, the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum is home to many prized collections. And while it posses many treasures within its walls, two particular gems you’ll find are two amazing rooms which have been known to house weddings, receptions, and other galas. The most popular room, the great central hall – with over 40 foot tall ceilings and large skylights – connects the two wings of the building. The only catch to having an event there – you have to be donating member of the museum!
